SYTECH Addresses Industry Leaders at BAPCO 2026

Head of People & Culture, Miguelle James, from leading digital forensics and cybersecurity consultancy SYTECH, took to the stage to address industry leaders at the annual conference run by the British Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (BAPCO) at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Miguelle shared valued insight into the growing psychological risks faced by digital forensic professionals and the need for proactive safeguarding across the sector.

In her presentation, Supporting the Digital Frontline, Miguelle set out how digital forensic specialists are routinely exposed to highly distressing material, including serious sexual and violent offences, as part of their critical role in public protection. While often unseen, this repeated exposure carries well‑evidenced risks such as secondary trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue.

Drawing on SYTECH’s experience, Miguelle outlined the organisation’s shift from reactive wellbeing support to a more proactive approach treating psychological exposure as an occupational risk. This includes embedding wellbeing into operational planning, providing independent trauma‑informed psychological screening and support, and driving cultural change around mental wellbeing.

The presentation emphasised that supporting digital forensic professionals is essential not only for individual wellbeing, but also for sustaining performance, retaining specialist expertise, and maintaining public trust as digital evidence volumes continue to rise.

Miguelle comments: “At SYTECH we believe that our colleagues are central to everything we do, and that supporting them means recognising the emotional weight of digital forensic work and making sure the right support is in place to help them do it safely and sustainably.”

Following her presentation, Miguelle then joined other esteemed professionals in an on-stage panel discussion.
