Tacos, tunes & tennis: Mexican Stand Off arrives at Courts Club
Manchester’s go-to LA-style hangout spot, Courts Club, will be home to vibrant flavours as it welcomes Food Battles, the north east’s legendary cuisine combat, on Friday 25th July (3-10pm) and Saturday 26th July (12–10pm).
The Food Battle taking place at the St John’s neighbourhood in Manchester promises two days of mouth-watering street food, locally-brewed beer, epic tunes, and family-friendly vibes, all with free entry and no tickets needed.
The event will showcase local restaurants, pop-ups, and chefs encouraging them to bring their A-game as they serve dishes to the public and battle it out to earn the most votes. Visitors to the Courts Club Food Battle can grab a beer, buy food tokens for £5 each, taste the contenders’ dishes, and cast their vote. The winners are selected based on quantity sold, votes secured, and an independent judge scoring.
Food Battles, which started in 2015, have built a loyal following across the North East with high-energy weekend festivals celebrating the art of street food through friendly but fierce competition. Past battles have included Slice Wars, Lord of the Wings, and Argie Bhaji, but this summer, it’s all about tacos, spice, and colourful flavour at the Mexican Stand Off.
Co-founder of Food Battles, Danny Hughes, commented, “It just feels like the right fit. We get to overlap our love for epic food with music, Manchester, and tennis!”
Hayley Sammé, Marketing and Sales Director at Shiko Group, added, “We’re excited to bring something as fun and vibrant as the Mexican Stand Off to Courts Club. The Food Battles event is all about great food in a buzzing atmosphere with a community feel, and is the perfect way to continue the summer celebrations!”
The Courts Club collaboration brings a fresh twist to the series, integrating the venue’s popular Saturday evening Hoops session, (free hoop shots with live DJs with that New-York vibe), alongside the food event which will be set up directly on the court, creating a blend of sport, food, and culture.*
Whether you’re a die-hard foodie or simply looking for something unique to do in Manchester, the Mexican Stand Off promises a flavoursome fiesta with something for everyone including families and dogs. Let the best taco win!
