The Fort’s new EV chargers

Shoppers at The Fort in Birmingham can now top up their Electric Vehicles whilst they shop, thanks to a bank of 20 new EV chargers at the shopping park.

One of the biggest EV charging installations in the West Midlands, The Fort’s EV chargers are part of the shopping park owners’ ongoing commitment to its sustainability strategy.

The new EV facility includes eight fast (22kW) and 12 ultra rapid (180kW) charge points, located opposite Next. The Gridserve chargers accept payment by contactless debit or credit cards, Apple or Googlepay, or RFID cards. The chargers offer a mix of CHAdeMO and CCS connectors and type 2 sockets.

The Fort’s location, easily accessed from the M6 motorway, means the bank of new chargers will be useful for local shoppers, nearby residents and EV drivers from further afield.

As part of their sustainability strategy, The Fort’s owners are also going to fit thousands of solar panels on the roofs of The Fort’s shops to reduce the centre’s carbon footprint.

Work will start later this month on the installation of 4,000 Trina Solar Vertex Solar panels which produce up to 1,600 kWp (kilowatt peak) of electricity, which is almost half the power needed to run the shopping park.
