Mar Del Mar Diaz Arias has joined Eastcott Referrals as head of anaesthesia and analgesia.

A renowned Swindon veterinary referral centre has further boosted its expert team with the appointment of a new head of service for anaesthesia and analgesia.

Mar Del Mar Diaz Arias, who joins Linnaeus-owned Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, plans to use her role to focus on training junior staff members.

Graduating in 2015 from the University Alfonso X el Sabio in Madrid, Mar said she knew she wanted to specialise in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia while she was still doing her studies.

She completed a small animal anaesthesia internship at the Animal Health Trust in 2017, before completing a European residency with the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA).

Mar’s most memorable case to date has seen her anaesthetise an emu that had a forelimb deformity which needed surgical correction.

Mar, who qualified as a specialist in 2022 and joins Eastcott from fellow Linnaeus practice Southfields Veterinary Specialists in Essex, said: “Becoming head of service is a great opportunity to develop further my skills and create a team with a positive and productive environment, in which animal safety is a priority.

“My main ambition is to develop further the support that the anaesthesia service provides at Eastcott to other disciplines and to develop a group of anaesthesia nurses who are highly-knowledgeable in the field.”

Welcoming Mar to Eastcott, Kieran Borgeat, clinical director, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Mar to Eastcott Veterinary Referrals as we continue to invest in highly-skilled professionals.

“Mar will be a great asset and her extensive experience and expertise is a valuable addition to our wide range of specialist-led services.”

Eastcott Veterinary Referrals offers expert care in cardiology, dentistry, internal medicine, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, diagnostic imaging and CT, anaesthesia and analgesia and has its own Emergency Care Centre.
