Bookface Sip & Swap in Glasgow Raises £1,600 for Refuweegee

Rickshaw & Co

Book lovers in Scotland turned out in force for the sold-out Bookface Sip & Swap at Rickshaw & Co. in Partick—raising £1,601.25 via Just Giving to support Refuweegee, the Glasgow-based charity that welcomes displaced people with practical support and compassion.

Hosted by Bookface founder and broadcaster Heather Suttie, the event blended books, community and an eclectic mix of avid readers including BBC Scotland’s Home of the Year judge Anna Campbell-Jones, author Rose Ruane, singer songwriter Jerry Burns, international crime expert David Swindle and avid readers from Bookface, the online and in person book community founded by avid reader and broadcaster Heather Suttie.

Guests enjoyed curated book swapping from a selection of over 200 lifestyle, culinary and wellness titles, with Rickshaw & Co. providing beautifully presented cocktails throughout the afternoon. A luxury raffle featuring foodie, beauty and book prizes helped raise funds.

Tushar Ahmed, co-owner of Rickshaw & Co. said: “We were blown away by the response. The atmosphere was full of warmth and generosity. Rickshaw & Co. is about good food and good company—and we’re proud to be part of something that directly supports people who are making a new home in Glasgow.”

Heather Suttie added: “Bookface is built on the idea that books bring people together. This event proved that—and also showed how small actions can make a real difference. Thank you to everyone who swapped, sipped and supported.” The money raised will go directly to Refuweegee to fund welcome packs, essential supplies and ongoing support for those rebuilding their lives.

With almost 5000 members in 50 countries, Suttie attracts some of the most celebrated and exciting talent in literary circles to her events — Heather Morris, Davinia Taylor, Susannah Constantine, Val McDermid, Lisa Jewell, Chris Brookmyre and Sophie. Gravia are all guests at the Bookface Sip & Swaps which take place monthly at venues across the city.
