Local brothers Dan and Paul Taherian reconnected through becoming managing directors of local in-home care business, Sylvian Care Woking. Their partnership has resulted in a commitment to helping their care professionals settle from overseas here in the UK. Going above and beyond the call of duty, the brothers have provided a helping hand to people when they need it most – like mum of three, Georgina Chabata.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Georgina relocated to the UK in June 2023 – initially to Bristol before moving to Woking to work for Sylvian Care in October. “When I moved, my husband hadn’t come to the UK yet, so I was struggling to support my family financially. I’d mentioned this in passing to Paul and Dan, and the next time I came into the office they’d bought me a weekly shop for me and my three children.”
The brothers continued to help Georgina as her and her family settled in the UK. “I did have a car when I started, but it didn’t have great fuel efficiency, so I was using my allowance before I was getting halfway between clients. Once I explained my situation to Dan and Paul, they bought me a new car – one that was big enough for my whole family too!
“They treat me as part of their family. Before my husband moved, I was facing issues finding suitable accommodation. I couldn’t list his salary when I was applying to landlords – Paul told me not to worry and became my guarantor. They’ve gone out their way for me and my family and I’m not sure where I would have been without their help.”
Going the extra mile for their care professionals is at the core of Dan and Paul’s business values. The managing directors of Sylvian Care Woking say a quote from their dad really stuck with them. “Our dad would say – what good is a man who doesn’t better the world around him? It was something that we wanted to factor into our running of a business. We were motivated to make sure we were helping those who weren’t as fortunate,” said Paul.
“Making a difference to people’s lives, whether that’s our clients or care professionals, is so important to us,” explains Dan. “We want this business to be a close-knit family, and if we can do something that’ll help someone out, that becomes our priority.”
Running their own business has strengthened the brothers’ relationship. “By no means were we distant, but this whole experience has definitely brought us a lot closer together. Since we launched in 2022, we’ve also both had kids, so it’s been pretty hectic at times, but I think I speak for both of us when I say I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to work so closely on such an important endeavour that is having a really positive impact on people’s lives,” adds Paul. “It’s not just the clients or care professionals that feel the benefit of what we do but their families too.”
Sylvian Care Woking was registered with CQC in May of 2022 and extends their services to Woking, Esher, Cobham, Walton-on-Thames, West Byfleet and East Molesey.
“I’m so grateful for all they’ve done for me and my family,” added Georgina. “It is easily the best place I’ve ever worked – I love my job and my children are enjoying building their own lives in a new country. I couldn’t have done it without Paul and Dan. There’s no place I’d rather be.”
