Double Life: Bestselling Author Preethi Nair Unveils Her Fourth Novel “Unravelling”—A Tale of Love, Choices, and Self-Discovery
Bestselling author Preethi Nair is once again poised to enchant readers with her latest novel, Unravelling. This deeply moving story is a rich exploration of love, the difficult choices we face, and the hidden complexities behind lives that seem perfect from the outside. In a daring move, Nair has chosen to turn down a major publishing deal with HarperCollins, opting instead to self-publish her new book. This decision reaffirms her status as a fiercely independent and pioneering voice in modern literature.
Unravelling introduces us to Bhanu, a woman who appears to have everything— a loving husband, wonderful children, and a beautiful home. But as she nears her 40th wedding anniversary, her life is upended when her first love, Deep, reappears with an electrifying proposition: to leave everything behind and start a new life with him.
Through this novel, Nair delves into profound themes of identity, sacrifice, and the persistent question of “what if?” that accompanies every significant decision in life.
“I wanted to explore the gap between what we present to the world in order to be accepted and what is really going on,” Nair explains. “Bhanu’s story is a universal one—of love, regret, and the pursuit of happiness. Rejecting HarperCollins was not an easy choice, but I felt a deep need to maintain creative control. Additionally, I wanted to give a voice to an older woman, to demonstrate that it’s never too late to start over.”
Preethi Nair first captured readers’ hearts with her debut novel, Gypsy Masala, which she self-published, cleverly entering the book charts by creating an alter-ego publicist named Pru.
Pru was even shortlisted as Publicist of the Year at the PPC Awards. Nair humorously declined to attend, as she didn’t want to thank the various parts of herself who “had been a dream to work with.”
Nair was honored with the title of Asian Woman of the Year for her achievements. Following her early success, she signed a three-book deal with HarperCollins.
Unravelling is inspired by a sell-out one-woman show that Nair wrote, performed, and produced in the West End, despite having never acted before. The show has since been optioned for television.
Beyond writing, Preethi is an inspirational speaker and serves as a visiting professor at various business schools, where she teaches creativity and storytelling as tools for personal leadership.
Unravelling will be available in paperback (£10.99) at all good bookshops and online retailers from 27th September 2024.
