Green light for S&R as ‘traffic management’ business heads for record year
A string of new wins has seen a fledging traffic management specialist post a record £1.4m year – just eighteen months after starting out.
Kingswinford-based S&R Traffic Management has doubled the number of firms it is working with, after impressing clients with its scheduling, new technology and ability to deliver an integrated service.
Ten new jobs have been created in the last year, taking its highly skilled team to 20 people working across projects in the Midlands, the North and the South.
Part of S&R Construction, the company handles everything from CAD design and permit applications to on-site implementation and supervision.
Whether it’s ‘stop/go’ systems, multiway traffic lights, or full lane and road closures, it makes sure traffic management runs smoothly and complies with NHSS 12D and Chapter 8 standards.
“Traffic management is an essential part of ensuring utilities, groundwork and housebuilding projects run smoothly and stay on schedule. S&R Construction was originally having to outsource this with varying degrees of success,” explained Rob Bright, who runs S&R Traffic Management with Connor Martin.
“This got the team thinking…what about if we developed our own operation, meaning we could keep everything in-house and offer a fully integrated service. Over £1m of investment and the appointment of a couple of sector experts later and we started working on contracts for our sister business, before spreading out to working independently for Grub Construction, Capital Sky and Chevron.”
He continued: “I don’t think anyone could have predicted the rate at which we’ve grown. We’ve gone from a standing start to a business that will be on track for £2m by the end of 2026 and this will definitely require more people. It’s only going to get bigger as our reputation spreads across the UK.”
S&R Traffic Management’s Lantra-accredited crews plan, set-up and manage every aspect of traffic control to keep people safe and sites productive.
Each setup is inspected, logged, and monitored by qualified supervisors, with full compliance documentation and clear communication throughout.
This, combined with investment in the latest lighting technology (including solar powered models) and a fleet of 20 vans, has seen it clock up over 185 successful projects during the last twelve months, with the opportunity to double that figure going forward.
Connor Martin, who has worked in the sector for more than 25 years, went on to add: “We just try to do things a little differently, having had experience across the entire project and understanding how to overcome some of the pain points that firms face.
“This has led to fast response times, best practice solutions to complex layouts and lighting technology that gives us greater control and agility. Firms are switching on to the peace of mind we can deliver, and this is leading to lots of new opportunities.”
S&R Traffic Management, which operates from its HQ in Kingswinford and satellite depots across the UK, holds ISO:9001, ISO:14001 and ISO:45001quality accreditations. It has also recently completed a NHSS 12D audit with zero nonconformities raised.
Last year, the company also had no reportable accidents across its active sites, with 98% permit compliance rate achieved.
