Two fathers have launched ‘The Modern Family Show’, the UK’s only LGBTQ+ parenting event designed to provide guidance and support for gay and trans-people looking to create a family.

Recent research by the Family Equality Council showed 63 per cent of LGBTQ+ millennials are considering family creation. With a surge in thirty-somethings seeking out advice on becoming first time parents or looking to expand their families further, surrogacy advocates Michael and Wes Johnson-Ellis of TwoDads.UK decided it was time to make information more accessible.

The boutique event will explore the physical and emotional possibilities of becoming a parent in the LGBTQ+ community. Attendees can expect medical advice and experience led seminars on surrogacy, IUI/IVF, sperm or egg donation, as well as trans parenting and fertility preservation.

The all-day event will also host talks and debates on the opportunities within in co-parenting, fostering, adoption or solo parenting.

To date the Modern Family Show is the only UK event of its kind dedicated solely to the LGBTQ+ community and will take place at the iconic 8 Northumberland in central London on September 19th 2020.

With demand for family creation on the rise, the fathers-of-two believe this event will break down barriers and help wannabe parents to identify the route for them. The pair are working with charities, advocates and industry experts to craft The Modern Family Show.

Michael Johnson-Ellis, who makes up one half of TwoDads.UK, said: “It was a long time before we believed there was any possibility for us as two men to have a baby or to grow our family. And that is why events like this are so crucial.

“There has never been a greater need for an inclusive LGBTQ+ event for family creation. We hope we can inspire people to take the leap into parenthood and guide them to make informed decisions about their future family.

“We believe The Modern Family Show will bust myths and stigmas within the gay, bi, lesbian and trans community around being parents and provide a safe and open space for people to start having those conversations.”

The Modern Family Show has teamed up with some of the UK’s leading LGBT parenting influencers who will act as advocates for different family styles across the event, offering advice and support through a #AskMe hashtag.

The event will also be partnered with inclusion charity Diversity Role models and transgender charity Mermaids.
