London swimming school all set to open

With the winter nights drawing in and summer holidays very much in the rear view mirror, Crazy Crabs Swim School is urging people to keep on swimming as it expands into Elephant & Castle, this month, with a new programme of swimming lessons designed to make learning to swim more accessible to the local community.

Darwin Court has been named as the new South London venue, offering everything from baby and toddler sessions through to adult beginner lessons, private tuition, and dedicated SEN swimming sessions.

The launch marks the latest expansion for Crazy Crabs, which has built its approach around creating supportive environments where swimmers can learn at their own pace, whether they are entering the water for the first time or looking to build confidence later in life.

Founder Emma said the aim is to create a programme that recognises that learning to swim is not always something that happens during childhood.

“People come to swimming for so many different reasons and at very different stages of their lives. We might have a parent bringing their baby into the water for the first time, an adult who has never learnt to swim or somebody who simply wants the confidence to go on a summer holiday and get into a pool without worrying.

“We also know that a traditional group swimming lesson isn’t necessarily the right environment for everybody, which is why it was important to us to offer different options.

“There can still be a perception that if you didn’t learn to swim as a child, you’ve somehow missed your opportunity, but that simply isn’t the case. Adults can absolutely learn to swim, and sometimes having the right teacher and the right environment is all that is needed to take that first step.”

Dedicated private SEN lessons will allow teaching to be adapted around each swimmer, with additional time, space and support where needed, while baby and toddler sessions will introduce younger children to the water and help parents feel more comfortable swimming with them.

Emma added: “Elephant & Castle is such a diverse community, so we wanted the programme here to reflect that. This isn’t just about teaching strokes, it is about helping more people feel that swimming is somewhere they belong, whatever their age, background or starting point.”
