A Derby law firm is set to continue its long commitment to supporting the city’s popular 10k race after funding another bumper turnout from its staff at the event this weekend.

Around 11 employees from Smith Partnership, in Friar Gate, are set to take their places in amongst the 5,000-or-so other competitors who will be running the 10k/6.2-mile race through Pride Park and the city centre on Sunday morning.

Every year Smith Partnership pays for its staff to enter the race as part of its involvement with the Derby County Community Trust, which organises the event, and it is set to be well-represented on the start line this weekend too.

The runners have a range of experience between them, from Derby 10K veterans Sammi Allen, a paralegal in its family team, and accounts clerk Matt Taylor, to first-timers Amelia Sutcliffe, a trainee childcare solicitor, and John Ellis, a solicitor in its dispute resolution department.

Making her second appearance in the 10k is the firm’s marketing executive Sophie Shapcott, who will be lining up alongside Smith Partnership partner Bally Atwal, Claire Twells, a partner and dispute resolution solicitor, childcare solicitor Eleanor Derry, support analyst Joe Davis, network administrator Scott Wallis and Carrieanne Masters, a paralegal in the firm’s personal injury team.

John said: “I’ve only recently joined the firm so this is my first time in the race but there are quite a few of us who have done it a number of times and it’s become an important event on the Smith Partnership calendar.

“We’re keen supporters of the Derby County Community Trust and also of the community and the city itself, so I think it’s really important for us to put out a strong team in events like this.

“I understand that it can quite competitive among our runners and some have trained more than others, but everyone’s looking forward to it and it should be a great event.”

Smith Partnership operates five other offices across the East Midlands, in Burton, Stoke, Leicester, Swadlincote and Ashby, and offers a full range of legal service.

They include private work such as criminal law, family law, wills and probate, and corporate law services including commercial property, dispute resolution and debt recovery.
