York-based quiz tech company SpeedQuizzing is hosting a virtual quiz with an array of well-known bands and artists as part of the Y Not Festival’s virtual programme of events which begins on Friday 24 July.

The SpeedQuizzing Live contest is one of a number of virtual events curated by the Y Not Festival team after the Derbyshire festival had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The bands and artists who feature in the quiz were all due to play at the festival and include: punk and folk singer-songwriter Frank Turner; rock trio The Hara; pop-punk band Walt Disco; enigmatic singer-songwriter Li Laurent; indie-disco sensations Patawawa; Sheffield four-piece The Wired; Bernard Thresher from comedy folk band The Lancashire Hotpots; teenage singing sensation Joey Greener; Kiaran Crook of The Sherlocks; singer-songwriter Rick Witter and bassist Tom Gladwin from indie legends Shed Seven.

Hosted by Shed Seven drummer and SpeedQuizzing co-founder Alan Leach, the quiz will be available to watch from the Y Not Festival’s Facebook page as part of a huge programme of virtual events which kicks off at 5.30pm today.

It follows the usual SpeedQuizzing format, with players given just ten seconds to answer each of the music-themed questions over a number of fast-paced rounds, with the quickest person to answer correctly gaining bonus points.

Commenting on the quiz, Shed Seven drummer and quiz host Alan Leach said: “Like all of the other performers, we’re gutted not to be playing Y Not Festival this weekend and we’re already counting down the days until the next one.

“We wanted to do something to support the brilliant virtual festival programme that the team at Y Not are laying on for fans and thought a SpeedQuizzing contest would be a great way to bring together some of the acts who were due to perform on the various stages.

“What followed was a fiercely fought, good-humoured contest, and we hope that it brings some enjoyment and festival vibes to fans watching at home.”
