Women of London rally behind We Help Ukrainians Charity
Women from across London involved in the Shoebox Project for Women, UK, have been rallying to support their Ukrainian counterparts with humanitarian products from corporate sponsors.
Established with the aim to share kindness and compassion with local women impacted by homelessness through the collection and distribution of gift filled Shoeboxes, The Shoebox Project for Women has been specialised for over a decade in making marginalised women feel valued and dignified.
Women are often left with no or little access to personal hygiene products for themselves and their children in conflict zones like Ukraine. Yet these products are essential in maintaining morale both within Ukraine and as refugees.
Shoebox Project for Women UK’s London chapter has therefore been rallying to provide products gathered in their recent shoebox drive to the We Help Ukrainians charity who are delivering a wide range of donations across Ukraine. Hundreds of products from Colgate toothbrushes and paste, to Sanex deodorants and cleansing wipes have been gathered and donated to this worthy cause.
“The Shoebox Project for Women is all about supporting Women impacted by homelessness. The women in Ukraine today are facing extreme versions of the same challenges our community struggles with every day. It was therefore a natural choice for us to contribute to the humanitarian aid effort and share our message of empathy and encouragement for the women of Ukraine.” Julie McConville, trustee of the Shoebox Project UK.
The Shoebox Project for Women UK is now actively inviting both the public and corporate sponsors to donate through their website and 100% of the donations will go towards purchasing either essential gift cards or products for Ukrainian women.
In 2021 the project collected over £20,000 worth of shoeboxes during the festive season, and this year they have already collected over £6000 by the second quarter.
