Glasgow cabin company builds rapid success with projects worth up to £150,000

A Glasgow entrepreneur who turned his passion for building into a new business is securing cabin projects worth between £20,000 and £150,000.

John McClelland launched Clever Built Cabins in 2025 following a conversation with his friend Gordon Campbell, co-founder of Glasgow digital advertising agency ClickBoost.

John said: “Gordon encouraged me to build a business around something I cared about. He helped me see that the answer had been sitting in front of me all along.” John began developing Clever Built Cabins during evenings and weekends while completing his redundancy notice after 13 years working in financial crime investigations at Santander.

With his partner Laura expecting their daughter Lily, he invested his savings in the company, learned a new trade and built relationships with suppliers across the sector.

ClickBoost became the company’s digital growth partner, generating enquiries and helping John secure his first customer within weeks.

John said: “The speed at which ClickBoost created new opportunities blew me away. Their team removed the guesswork from marketing, leaving me free to build cabins and look after our customers.”

Clever Built Cabins now designs and installs bespoke garden rooms and log cabins across Scotland, while supplying cabins throughout the UK. Projects range from home offices and gyms to entertainment spaces, family rooms and commercial premises, with contracts valued between £20,000 and £150,000.

The company’s website details all of their products including glamping pods, five star reviews and an extensive list of FAQs. John said: “Every customer and project is different. We listen, adapt the design and create a space that fits how they want to use it.

“Some days it feels like I get to play with Lego for a living.”

John now plans to expand Clever Built Cabins, grow its team and create skilled jobs in Glasgow.

He added: “I’ve loved building something from the ground up. My aim is to keep growing, create exceptional spaces and build a company my family can be proud of.”
