The new Angus Grill + Larder has welcomed its first diners this week, opening after a considerable renovation, which saw the Bonnybreich Coffee Bothy transformed into a modern roadside eatery, which has placed emphasis on local and seasonal produce.

Welcoming the first visitors to the Angus Grill + Larder was Chef Manager Kieran Turner, who joined the team from Roo’s Leap in Montrose. Working with management company CAM Ventures, Kieran has developed a mouth-watering menu, which places emphasis on the very best Scottish produce and is filled with local producers.

Serving from 7am-6pm daily, diners can look forward to getting stuck into AG+L Breakfast Grills, Signature burgers and dogs, and speaking about the menu Kieran has said, ‘I’ve really enjoyed getting stuck in, and designing a menu from the ground up. We’ve created something which will appeal to everyone – whether you’re just looking for a quick snack, or something more substantial, our menu really highlights the best of our local area.’

In addition to serving up a true taste of the local, the team were keen to celebrate their locality in a more unique manner. Teaming up with local artists Pamela Scott, Laura Darling and Louise Kirby, Angus Grill + Larder have transformed the loos into an ‘Art Gallery + Lavatorium’ with a series of colourful, hand painted murals paying homage to the local towns of Brechin, Forfar and Arbroath.

The Grill + Larder has been designed to appeal to locals and visitors alike, and the next 12 months will see the site expand to include a children’s play area and an electric vehicle charging area.

CAM Ventures’ Managing Director Will Macpherson has said of the opening, ‘we are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming our first visitors today and can’t wait to see what they think of the transformation. Our position on the A90 means that we’re within easy reach for much of Tayside, and we can’t wait to welcome locals in addition to drivers passing through, and serve them up a true taste of the area.’

The project is the first hospitality management project for the firm, which hopes to open two further Grill + Larder concepts in the next six months. Established in 2021, they have already made investment in new Scottish ready to drink cocktail brand Angel’s Dare.

Today’s opening has led to the creation of 8 local jobs initially, with hopes to expand the team as the Angus Grill + Larder moves towards opening seven days per week.
