Former Charlton Athletic manager Les Reed has been announced as a consultant to MiMentor, the online learning platform for football coaches.

In his role, Les will help support the development of the MiMentor platform and coach education programmes, as well as promoting the brand among football clubs across the globe.

Les has managerial experience at the highest level, having been manager at then Premier League side Charlton Athletic during the 2006/2007 season. He was also assistant manager at the club under Alan Curbishley between 1995-1998, helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League in the 1998 playoffs.

More recently, Les was Vice Chairman – Football Strategy and Executive Director of Football at Southampton between 2010 and 2018, during which the club rose from League One to a peak of 7th in the Premier League. He then took on the position of Technical Director at the Football Association in 2019, and was appointed as Strategic Football Advisor to the Board at Wrexham AFC in June 2021.

MiMentor is an online subscription-based learning platform, aimed at supporting football coaches in their development. Alongside individual subscriptions, the business works with football clubs to white label the platform to tailor a digital experience that is aligned to the brand and ethos of a club.

The platform allows organisations to educate staff through a seamless and engaging learning environment which allows staff to access content on-demand at a time that suits them. This has proven extremely valuable during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, enabling clubs to develop staff during a period of low travel, both nationally and internationally.

As part of the MiMentor platform, customers receive unlimited access to all courses, which cover topics from tactical analysis and decision making to emotional health and wellbeing, and have access to a personalised learning experience geared around specific areas of focus. Alongside this, coaches are offered the opportunity to connect with a global community of coaches, offering direct, personal feedback.

Les Reed, consultant at MiMentor, said: “Education in football has been growing at a fast pace in recent years, there are many platforms that provide access to a variety of content but high quality, meaningful content is hard to find. MiMentor will provide high level resources to all areas of football in a simple and easy to navigate way. The delivery of excellent education in sport means a lot to me. I have had a long career delivering education around the World and have trained thousands of coaches in over 25 countries in face to face environments. MiMentor will bring the ability to deliver high level learning experiences to millions. This makes it an incredibly exciting project for me and why I am going to enjoy being involved.

James Baker, director of content and partnerships at MiMentor, said: “Through his years with Charlton, Fulham and Southampton, Les has gathered a huge amount of experience of coaching and managing at the elite level of football. His knowledge and connections will prove enormously valuable to MiMentor as we continue to scale our platform, both with coaches and football clubs across the UK and globally.”
