Leadership expert and author David Buffin with his first book Training is for Dogs, Learning is for Explorers.

An internationally renowned leadership expert from Gloucestershire has turned his talents to book writing.

Training is for Dogs, Learning is for Explorers is the first book by David Buffin, founder and now retired chairman of results coaching organisation Buffin Leadership International.

A former executive with Whitbread, Tesco, Rank Hovis and Express Dairies, Mr Buffin left the corporate world at the age of 50.

He was inspired to branch out on his own and launch his own coaching company after seeing seashells on a beach during a Caribbean holiday. Drawing inspiration from the shell’s shape, he devised a plan for his future work/life balance and what he wanted to achieve both professionally and personally.

The wide range of people helped by Mr Buffin includes corporate high-flyers and young offenders and he hopes his book will inspire anyone setting up their own business, seeking to regenerate an existing company or aiming to reignite their current career or any other area of their life.

Full of real life stories and featuring innovative learning techniques such as the use of puppetry, Training is for Dogs, Learning is for Explorers shows what can be achieved when conflict is replaced with collaboration and people pull together.

“The book’s focus is on enjoying the learning process. It offers insight and explanation combined with practical tips and exercises, summaries and action plans which will enable readers to challenge their own thinking,” said Mr Buffin, who lives in Cheltenham.

“I hope my life and business story will inspire readers of all ages and from different walks of life to change their own situation and break through perceived barriers of fear, cynicism, lack of confidence, skill or knowledge to explore their true potential.”
