As Star Wars fans across the globe celebrate May 4th it appears one country is feeling the force more than anyone else – Germany! Over the last ten days, just under one-fifth (19.7%) of all sales related to Star Wars themed product was sold in Germany on online marketplace Fruugo.

The celebratory day is also proving popular in Switzerland, with the market taking up 13.4% of sales, and Norway, which takes up 8.3%.

Since it first premiered in 1977, Star Wars has become a sensation in almost every country and is now one of the highest grossing film franchises in the world, so much so that the classic quote ‘May the force be with you’ is now celebrated globally.

Cultural phenomenon’s such as Star Wars showcase just how significant a popular trend can have across the world and offer a fantastic opportunity for specialist retailers within the consumer industry to utilise popular markets they may not have predicted such as Germany and Switzerland.

For specific retailers such as toy and cosplay companies, May 4th is a great way to reach new audiences and maximise their brand awareness in new markets, with popular products on marketplace Fruugo including Star Wars building blocks and action figures.
