Forget plane tickets — your taste buds can take a trip to the Aegean without leaving Edinburgh. Simply Greek, the family-owned restaurant adored for its authentic Greek flavours, is proving a hit with diners in its stunning new home at 8 Union Street, right across from the iconic Edinburgh Playhouse.

What began as a humble 16-seat taverna has grown — thanks to loyal fans who know their souvlaki from their stifado — into one of Edinburgh’s most flavour-packed foodie destinations. The secret? Simple ingredients, big flavours, and filoxenia — that warm Greek spirit of hospitality.

Expect all the classics done right: melt-in-your-mouth moussaka, sizzling souvlaki, crisp Greek salads, and tzatziki so good you’ll want to dip your life in it. Every dish is made with recipes passed down through generations — proof that when it comes to Greek food, mama really does know best.

Owner Dimitris Zarkalis  said: “We started with just 16 seats and a dream — to bring a little bit of Greece to Edinburgh. This move is a celebration of how much our customers have supported us. The new space lets us serve more of what we love: great food, laughter, and that family feeling.” He  added: We can now cater for 45 guests, Book a table between 4-5.30, Mon-Fri and when you order, the chef will give you a free mezze.
