Baby Loss Awareness Week 2026: Elsie’s Moon Invites Families to Come Together for the Wave of Light
Baby Loss Awareness Week runs from 9–15 October 2026, bringing families and communities together to honour babies gone too soon and to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss.
Throughout the week, buildings and landmarks across the North West will be illuminated in pink and blue, remembrance events will take place across the region, and families will have opportunities to come together, reflect and remember.
The week will culminate on Thursday 15 October with the global Wave of Light, when people around the world light candles at 7pm in memory of babies gone too soon.
This year, Elsie’s Moon, a Wirral-based charity founded in memory of baby Elsie, will once again host a special Wave of Light gathering at Mercure Abbots Well, Chester, from 6pm–8pm.
Families are invited to arrive from 6pm and spend time together in a relaxed and supportive environment before joining the global candle lighting at 7pm.
The evening is designed to be welcoming and family-friendly, giving parents, siblings, grandparents, relatives and friends a safe space to remember someone special. Alongside the candle lighting, families can take part in gentle remembrance activities and crafts, with refreshments available throughout the evening.
There is no expectation to talk or share experiences. Families can take part in whatever way feels right for them, whether that means creating something in memory of their baby, lighting a candle, spending quiet time together or simply being surrounded by people who understand.
Elsie’s Moon is covering the cost of the event so that it remains free for families to attend, however advance booking is recommended through Eventbrite.
“Baby Loss Awareness Week will always hold a very special place in our hearts,” said Lindsey Pagett, founder of Elsie’s Moon. “The Wave of Light gives families a moment to come together and remember their babies, knowing that they are surrounded by people who understand just how important those memories are.”
“Seeing candles being lit at the same time by families around the world is incredibly moving. Every light represents a baby who is loved, remembered and always part of their family. We want our evening to be a gentle, welcoming space where families can remember in whatever way feels right for them.”
