Anthony Bullick, chair of CIPR North West

The chair of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) group for the north west of England has urged members to make sure they meet their continuing professional development targets.

Continuing professional development is a key part of being a part of an organisation like the CIPR with its status as a body with a Royal charter for professionals within public relations (PR).

The organisation provides nearly 1,400 resources through its MyCPD platform, and more than 900 of these are free, all of which are designed to help members proactively develop the knowledge and skills they need to stay relevant in an ever-changing industry.

Each learning activity helps accrue points, which lead towards CIPR accreditation, and therefore accredited practitioner or chartered status for an individual.

Anthony Bullick, who is managing director of PR agency Outwrite PR as well as chair of CIPR North West, earned chartered status in 2016.

Anthony said: “Becoming chartered has been a real benefit to me, both in terms of my career and my own development and skills, and ensuring I stayed on top of my continuing professional development was part of that.

“I’d urge everyone to get on top of their learning. If you want to start 2021 with a positive change, this is an incredibly accessible way of doing just that.

“There’s plenty out there to engage with to improve your skills and widen your horizons, in a number of different formats, so don’t let the fear of more hours in front of the laptop hold you back.”

The annual deadline to complete CPD is February 28, with activities available covering topics including ethics, crisis comms and planning as well as specific skills such as podcasting, video editing on mobile, and writing skills.
