Partner Steven Horsley will lead on claims against the MOD

Leading national consumer law firm Simpson Millar has demonstrated its commitment to opening up the law for clients across the North East with the opening of a new Billingham office, and the appointment of personal injury heavyweight Steven Horsley.

Joining as the new Head of Military, and adding to the team’s existing expertise, Steven brings with him more than 20-years’ experience in high-value, complex injury cases, including acting on behalf of individuals who have suffered as a result of medical negligence.

A member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and a skilled mediator, he moves from Hartlepool-based Smith and Graham Solicitors where he spent more than a decade leading the firm’s personal injury and clinical negligence department.

With a particular passion for providing support to serving and former members of the armed forces, he joins Simpson Millar with immediate effect and will lead the new Billingham-based team which will be stationed at Belasis Hall Technology Park.

A respected and well-established lawyer in the local area, Steven will now operate with the full support of the firm’s national network of consumer law experts specialising in family matters, court of protection, medical negligence, personal injury, wills, trusts and probate and public law and education.

Commenting on the appointment, Ian Cohen, Director of Injury at Simpson Millar said: “I am delighted to be welcoming Steven as Head of Military in the Injury Practice Area. His wealth of experience in the field reflects our dedication to continue recruiting the best people for our clients.

“Our team only continues to grow in strength, and I am confident that Steven will contribute to its success. We remain focused on our ‘open’ ethos, and our collective aim of being the people-centred legal solution provider.”

Steven, who is the latest in a string of senior hires for Simpson Millar, added: “I am certainly looking forward to joining Ian and the team at Simpson Millar as the firm continues its journey in delivering open and transparent legal advice which is accessible for all.

“Throughout my career I have been motivated to provide the best legal service available. That drives me to explore innovative ways of working within the legal environment as it constantly evolves to achieve high success rates and positive outcomes for all.

“Simpson Millar’s ethos and approach to be available at the key moments in their clients’ lives when they need expert legal advice the most struck a chord with me, and I am looking forward to being a part of a network of national lawyers who share a common goal.”

Simpson Millar is fast-establishing itself as the ‘go-to’ consumer law firm of choice across the country, also welcoming partners Cara Nuttall and Lorraine Harvey within its family law team since the start of the year.

The firm employs more than 500 people who perform across several departments in support of clients, including those going through a separation or divorce, people looking to purchase a new home, and those who have become ill or injured because of their work or while serving in the Armed Forces.

Steven’s arrival at Simpson Millar coincides with the recent roll out of the firm’s ‘open’ philosophy and business aim of opening up the law for both clients and colleagues, including the introduction of flexible working environments that benefit from the office or remotely to suit their individual circumstance; and his appointment at the firm demonstrates its commitment to hiring the right people for the right roles, without geographic limitations.
